EQUITY

Environmental justice is at the heart of Reimagine Middle Branch

The Reimagine Middle Branch team’s approach centers justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion. We are committed to delivering an environmental justice project with capital (constructed) elements, rather than a capital project that includes environmental justice elements.

Some of the actions that support this approach include:

  • Creating job and education opportunities for local BIPOC students via a Fellowship Program with Morgan State University’s School of Architecture & Planning, and The Community Design Lab, an environmental design program for South Baltimore high school students taught by members of the planning team. The Baltimore Black Sox Memorial project is collaborating with Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCUs); Parks & People is partnering with Coppin State University students to participate in a paid, credited program focused on researching Black Sox players and team owners.

  • Hosting outreach events that offer education and recreation activities to nearby communities while seeking community input on the plan.

  • Partnering with community leaders to develop a community-driven plan.

  • Distributing investments equitably, and concentrating improvements in neighborhoods that have experienced disinvestment.
