Morgan State University Fellowship Program

Part-internship and part individual-study, the Reimagine Middle Branch Fellowship Program offered 5 students from Morgan State University’s School of Architecture & Planning a unique opportunity to pair paid professional practice with self-directed research and design work as part of Reimagine Middle Branch plan.

Fellows were hosted by design team members for 10 weeks during the Summer of 2021. Host firms provided day-to-day direction on project work, guidance on individually-directed projects, and mentorship.

The Fellows’ individual research projects included:

  • Curriculum assessment strategies for the forthcoming Community Design Lab program;

  • The creation of a self-guided walking tour revealing historically hidden sites in the Middle Branch;

  • The development of family-oriented programming strategies for South Baltimore neighborhood parks;

  • Observations of activity and new perceptions of public space after the onset of the pandemic; and

  • Case studies of parks with similar socioeconomic and geographic characteristics to the Middle Branch.
