Westport & Smith Cove Waterfront Parks Community Boat Tour and Construction Celebration
On Saturday, April 18, 2026, Westport residents, neighbors, and project partners gathered to experience the future of the waterfront from a unique perspective—on the water.
The purpose of the Community Boat Tour was to celebrate the completion of the design phase and celebrate upcoming construction of the Westport & Smith Cove Waterfront Parks project. The event offered attendees a unique on-the-water perspective of the Middle Branch and Reimagine Middle Branch projects while providing an opportunity for stakeholders to engage directly with project partners and learn about next steps.
Attendees gathered at the Port Covington Marina pavilion prior to boarding for a brief networking period. Project boards and materials were available, and team members from Field Operations, SBGP, and Assedo engaged attendees in informal conversations about the project and next steps.

Discussions focused on the importance of access and opportunity, emphasizing how improved access to the waterfront creates new opportunities for surrounding communities.
The conversation highlighted how design, environmental quality, and connectivity all play a role in ensuring equitable access to the Middle Branch.
Next Steps
Construction for Westport & Smith Cove Waterfront Parks is expected to begin in Spring 2026.
The project team will continue to share updates and engagement opportunities as the project transitions into the construction phase.
Reimagine Middle Branch, a community-driven initiative, is led by the City of Baltimore, South Baltimore Gateway Partnership, and Parks & People, working alongside a team of expert consultants, stakeholders, and Baltimoreans.
