Jordan, a Youth Outreach Coordinator with Baltimore Community Rowing

“I found rowing in 9th grade. I used to play basketball and soccer, but wasn't good at them, and started searching for another team sport. One day one of my friends invited me to learn how to row. There’s a feeling of being in a boat and moving as a synchronized unit that is indescribable.

I became the only person of color on both my high school and college teams. Representation is very important. As a Youth Coordinator, the last three weeks of Baltimore Community Rowing's program have been some of my proudest moments. I was able to witness youth who have never been in a boat before, realize that they’ll be okay on the water. If they can conquer this fear, then we should all be able to do things that scare us.

I see the Middle Branch area as a tight knit family. I enjoy seeing everyone’s love for the area and their desire for improvement. I have a background in landscape architecture and would like to see more nature and green space at the Middle Branch as well as more amenities for youth to call their own and take ownership of.”
